Antique wine bottle - English Onion c.1700

English Onion Bottle c.1700

Origin: England

Colour: Green tint

Dimensions: Height 6.0 in Width 6.0in

Lip: Early English applied string rim

Base: Shallow kickup with sand pontil

Source: England

Condition: Very Good. Cellar found condition with glossy surface and base wear consistent with the bottle's age. A 0.35cm flake on the edge of the applied string rim and a 0.25cm flake on the edge of the lip surface. The top half of the bottle's neck has a stable 'hairline' that resembles a hangman's knot, see image below. However, this hairline feature is found in the necks of most translucent bottles of this period and doesn't detract from the collectability and rarity of this bottle.

Special features: Rare early English onion bottle in lovely translucent glass.
