This bottle has been dated as c.1860 by Willy Van den Bossche, 2001. However, Bonhams auctioneers in the UK, from where this bottle was acquired, dates this bottle as mid 18th century. I tend to agree with Bonhams attribution of age since this bottle is not contemporary with 3-piece moulds of the mid 19th century and the glass and sand pontil bears close resemblance to two All Souls College, Oxford University bottles c.1760:
- ASCR Seal Bottle Type 4a
- ASCR Seal Bottle Type 4b
