Fay Banks catalogues this bottle as Type 4(a) c.1763-1782 and further describes both Type 4a and 4b as "Dark, heavy metal which means that although they are probably two of the oldest bottles, they have a high survival potential." She also alludes to the fact that these bottles (Type 4a and 4b) although bearing the same seal, body structure and pontil type, have different string rim construction.
