Rare Scottish Sealed and Dated Nailsea Style Wine Bottle I.H 1836

Colour: Olive Green

Dimensions: Height 9.5in Width 4.25in

Lip: Down-tooled with applied string rim

Base: Kick-up with pontil scar

Source: Edinburgh. Scotland

Condition: Great. Typical surface wear with crazing to neck, body and seal.
Two 1.75in stable hairline cracks emanating from just below the seal and running diagonally at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. This may have been caused during production by the glass blower not applying the seal when the molten glass was at the right temperature.

Special features: Rare Scottish sealed and dated wine bottle attributed to Alloa Glassworks in Alloa Scotland. Globular shaped body splashed with white decorative inclusions.

Nailsea style bottles were produced from 1788 to 1873 at the Nailsea Glassworks south of Bristol, England.
Scottish examples are usually attributed to Alloa Glassworks in Alloa, near Edinburgh, Scotland.
