Excavated English Onion Wine Bottle circa. 1690
Origin: England
Colour: Green tint
Dimensions: Height 6.50 in Width 5.50in
Lip: Early English applied string rim

Source: England.
Condition: Great. Excavated condition with rim chips and extensive surface decay: pitting and irridescence due to burial.
Special features: This is a rare example of an early English shape with a blow-pipe pontil and saturn-like string rim.
Notice the pronounced pontil scar that was present on most English shaft and globe bottles between c.1650-1690 and then virtually disappeared. English onion and mallet bottles between c.1690 to c.1740 carried predominately sand pontil scars. However, rough disc pontil scars were revived on English bottles from the mid-18th to early 19th centuries.
