A globular wine bottle in the same mould as bottles originating from the Alloa Glassworks. Similar shapes were produced at the Nailsea Glassworks setup in Bristol in 1788. Dumbrell comments that such a shape confirm in virtually no way to normal bottles of the period and even the string rim is far from typical, see Understanding Antique Wine Bottles,Dumbrell, page 145, Antique Collectors Club. 1987.
Willy Van den Bossche attributes a similar shaped bottle with applied and dated seal: A.F - 1828 to Alloa Glassworks, see Antique Glass Bottles, Willy Van den Bossche, page 328, plate 271(1), Antique Collectors Club 2001.
Neil Wilcox's commentary on pages 116 and 117 of A Wine Lover's Glasses indicates that bottles produced at the Nailsea Glassworks in Bristol did not conform to standard evolution of shape and comprised of globular forms plus inclusion of white enamel splashes or pincered rigaree trails.
