Antique Belgian Spa Bottle c.1730

Belgian Spa Bottle c.1730

Origin: Europe

Colour: Amber

Dimensions: Height 10.0in Width body 5.0 base 3.0

Lip: Applied string rim

Base: No pontil scar

Source: Bath. England

Condition: Excellent. Typical surface wear with minor lip nibbles
There is a 1.5-2.0 cm area of grazing/minor flaking on the outer lip edge. Grazing on the outer edge of the lip seems typical for these bottles. See close-up photo of a similar bottle on page 187, plate 136A of Willy Van den Bossche's Antique Glass Bottles.
These bottles were originally encased in wicker. It's my guess that lip grazing was caused by rubbing on a hard surface (wood, stone or concrete) when the bottles were not in use or discarded.

Special features:
Belgian ovoid-shaped bottle used for mineral water of Spa
